Called to Rise
How do we remain calm and at peace despite everything going on around us in the world?
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” – John 16-33
Opening up God’s word in our current times and meditating on verses like John 16:33 remind us that in spite of all the chaos around us, God promises to take care of his own.
Whether you have lost your job, lost a loved one,or even lost faith. God wants to remind you today that he is and will always be with you.
“In the World we will have tribulation” And we certainly are living through tribulations right now. But what does the next verse say
“Take Heart for I(Christ) have overcome the world“
God has not abandoned us. He hears our pain, he knows our suffering, he knows our fears and all our worries.
How do I know? Because it is promised in God’s word.
Christ our Lord and savior came to world as man and endured suffering unlike any other for you and for me.
“For even here unto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.”-1st Peter 2:21
His example shows us that we will have to endure pain and suffering in this walk of life. But our eternal heavenly reward makes all these momentary trials worth it.
GOD IS PEACE
“…for they drank of that Spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.”–1 Corinthians 10:4
We must draw near to our Spiritual rock that is grounded and cannot be shaken. True peace that transcends any other kind of peace can only be obtained when we are holding onto Christ. The type of peace that says “regardless of my circumstances I know that God has my life in his hands.”
We must pray, fast, and allow God to speak to us through his word more and more each day. By doing this God promises that his peace will dwell abundantly in you and in me.
During times such as now what is our role as followers of Christ?
Peace begets peace; seek it out in your dealings with others, and God will bring it to you as well.
Once we have peace we are not to keep it selfishly, but to spread the peace. There are plenty of ways to spread peace even in today’s quarantined times.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” –Matthew 5:16
Be a peaceful neighbor
Start with your family and friends. If we cannot be peaceful in our own households with our loved ones how do we expect to do so with others.
Even something as little as avoiding unnecessary fights and arguments with a spouse.
The next step is to share God’s peace with others.
We see how chaotic the world is right now. The world needs peacemakers and more importantly the world needs Jesus now more than ever.
Even if we do not have the words or the confidence to openly speak about Christ in every public situation at this point in time, we can still live a life that reflects the peace of God within us wherever we go.
The holy spirit will give testimony to how we live our daily lives.
Non believers will see a difference in us at work or anywhere we may go and wonder what does this person have that makes them so happy and so at peace despite everything going on in the world.
Just by our actions we can plant that seed of curiosity and allow God to work through a persons heart.
Conclusion
Putting peace in action like everything else in life takes small baby steps at first. With Christ it will be that much easier, but it still requires our efforts.
And before we know it overtime any trial large or small will not allow us to be shaken. We will be calm because we have that peace that can only be felt from our holy father up above.
“Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.” – Psalms 86:11-13
