How to find God’s Purpose in my life
Each and every one of us has a longing and a desire to feel a sense of purpose. For some of us this purpose may be found in our jobs, building that dream physique, music. For others it could be helping those less fortunate, or maybe you are unsure what your purpose is in life.
Regardless of what we think our purpose is I am sure at one point or another we have asked “God what is YOUR purpose in my life.” I know for me this is a question that God hears frequently!
There were times where I felt as though I was lost at sea and had no sense of purpose. Life just felt mundane and not worth it. I would “try” to put my trust in God but felt as though it was not working so I became impatient. I had the compass (spiritually speaking) telling me where to go but still using my eyes to justify going another direction.
Because I know my purpose better than God right….wrong!!!
My purpose was not in my studies, it was not in my relationship, it was not in my job. Sure all of these things are important in our secular lives, and are important to pursue, but in any given moment these things can be taken from us. The truth is that only through God’s Unfailing love can our true purpose on this Earth be discovered. His love that is eternal and will be with us no matter what it is we are going through in life.
Steps to discover Gods purpose in your life
1.) Relationship with God
From the beginning God designed humanity to have a relationship with him. And only through that relationship with God is our purpose fulfilled. To develop a relationship with God it is similar to how any relationship is developed. COMMUNICATION! By talking to him through prayer and reading the word of God!
The same way you would persist a girl or guy you really wanted to know better. You wouldn’t just talk to someone you want to have a relationship with once a week. It is an everyday thing, when you really know someone you can recognize their voice a mile away, even in a pitch black room that voice will be noticeable.
Likewise with God pray and talk to him daily not just on Sunday, begin to discern God’s voice through his word. By discerning God’s voice his purpose and plan will become clear.
2.) Faith in God
Having Faith in where God is leading you regardless of how different it is from what we imagined.
Faith in God’s purpose. Even when the relationship you built your future around doesn’t work, trust God. Didn’t get into the college you hoped, trust God or Didn’t get the job you had your eye on, trust God.
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21).
The plans in our hearts are like waves tossed in the ocean here today and gone tomorrow but The Lord’s plans will last and impact generations. The fulfillment of Gods purpose in our lives starts with a small act of faith (the size of a mustard seed).
God I do not know where i’m going this is not how I intended my life to turn out but Lord have your way in me! Before every step we take in life ask God is this your will for my life. And if a certain door in our life closes have faith that everything will workout for good, and that even better doors will be opened.
3.) Love
Jesus showed us exactly what love is on the cross. That precious blood he shed for you and me. We are unworthy of that blood yet he gave his life for us. WHAT LOVE!! The love Jesus showed humanity even towards those who hated him is the type of love that is required in today’s world.
Forgiving those who hurt you or betrayed you, putting others first even when you don’t have it all together. Showing that love of Jesus to a world that is in so much need of love will make all the difference. Letting others see the love of Jesus through you.
Summary
Ultimately God’s plans are greater then our own, his purpose for our lives far exceeds anything we could ever imagine. The only thing stopping God’s purpose in our lives is ourselves.
God is here waiting with his arms wide open. Waiting for a relationship with you, he left his promises in his word. All he asks is a little bit of faith and to love one another as you love yourself. He will never force you.
Today he wants you to put all your worries aside, and trust that the purpose he has for your life is bigger than any degree, any job, and any other relationship. While your purpose on earth wont happen over night, it will be fulfilled! Trusting God’s purpose will impact not only yourself, your family, your friends, but anyone that has ears to listen and eyes to see.
God bless you always <3
